This past July, via the unexpected release of “La Cabra Jala Pal Monte,” Eduardo Cabra surprised fans with the creative demise of his Calle 13 era persona Visitante and the reclaiming of his own musical identity as the solo artist & producer CABRA. Now, this week sees him celebrating very special new music releases under both hats with today’s new CABRA single release of “La Ventana” and this week’s highly-anticipated new Rita Indiana album “Mandinga Times”- for which he worked as producer and close collaborator with the Dominican Indie Star.
Coinciding with his own birthday today, “La Ventana” sees Cabra lyrically recounting some of the darker moments and places he has experienced, while literally opening a window to let light in and create a new musical focus. “If ‘La Cabra Jala Pal Monte’ was a dispossession, ‘La Ventana’ is like a cleaning. It’s a more luminous song in which I want to continue what I view as a musical desintoxication,” Cabra explains… “Embracing musical and lyrical honesty, while always bringing an uplifting spirit from danceable elements & production. In today’s specific case of “La Ventana” which represents a second advance single from a full forthcoming album, that danceable element noticeably finds CABRA returning to his fascination of cumbia rhythms – showcasing a continued exploration and growth extending back to tracks such as “Atrévete”, “La cumbia de los aburridos”, “Tal para cual” and more. The simultaneously released video for “La Ventana” sees CABRA opening a window on a delightfully throwback style visit to a surrealist fantasy world.
More innovative new music also arrived this week with the highly anticipated release of Rita Indiana’s “Mandinga Times”- for which CABRA acted as the sole producer and close collaborator with the groundbreaking Dominican singer-songwriter.
“Quincy Jones is one of the most recognized and rightfully acclaimed figures in American popular music … and for that he has taken home 27 Grammys in a mind-boggling number of categories. A career like Jones’ is difficult to replicate, but Eduardo Cabra is doing his best… he has already won [28 GRAMMYS & LATIN GRAMMYS] for his work as a writer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, [annihilating categories]”
