Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico – Recientemente, el Fondo Bayer le otorgó una subvención a la organización sin fines de lucro Puerto Rico Composta por tercer año consecutivo para el beneficio de las comunidades escolares en el sur de Puerto Rico. Este año, la organización recibirá la suma de $14,600 para continuar llevando el Proyecto de Composta Manía sobre los beneficios del compostaje a escuelas del País.
“Nos sentimos honrados de colaborar nuevamente con Puerto Rico Composta quienes nos inspiran a continuar nuestra misión aquí en Bayer. Es un placer aportar diariamente al crecimiento de Puerto Rico y lograr los resultados que benefician a las comunidades que servimos”, dijo Marivier Rojas, líder de resultados y optimización en invernaderos de Bayer Crop Science Puerto Rico.
Esta alianza es otra muestra del compromiso sólido de Bayer con las comunidades que más ayuda necesitan, además de continuar con sus propósitos de seguir trabajando por el crecimiento social de Puerto Rico.
Actualmente, seis escuelas del área sur de Puerto Rico que forman parte del proyecto y de su primer ciclo: Luis Llorens Torres y Luis Muñoz Marín en Juana Díaz (escuela en modalidad virtual), Daniel Webster en Peñuelas, y Guillermo Riefkohl en Patillas. En el 2023, se unieron dos escuelas en el norte de la isla: Josefita Monserrate de Sellés en San Juan y Eugenio Brac en Naguabo.
Las escuelas correspondientes al segundo ciclo son: Ramón Pérez en Peñuelas, Gloria Borrero en Guayanilla, Leónides Morales en Lajas, Ramón Marín y Juan Serrallés en Ponce, Ana Valldejuly en Santa Isabel, y la organización PR Animals en Cayey.
“Al momento, 13 maestros y aproximadamente unos 250 estudiantes – entre estas seis escuelas – se encuentran trabajando de forma directa con el proyecto. El número de alcance que tendrá el proyecto puede ser mayor, pero tenemos establecido que el alcance indirecto que el proyecto tendrá si será mayor”, explicó Tainachí Fernández Roque, directora de Puerto Rico Composta, Inc. “Estos cambios en los números los compartiremos en nuestra actividad de cierre al final del período que cubre dicho proyecto.”
Como brazo filantrópico de Bayer en los Estados Unidos, el Fondo Bayer persigue su misión de brindar una visión de salud para todos y hambre para ninguno, además de seguir trabajando con organizaciones sin fines de lucro, como Puerto Rico Composta, para cumplir esos objetivos compartidos y fortalecer las comunidades agrícolas del País.

En 2022, el Fondo Bayer otorgó más de $13.4 millones a más de 2,700 organizaciones benéficas y sin fines de lucro para ayudar a abordar las necesidades esenciales en alimentación y nutrición, educación STEM, y salud y bienestar. Desde 2017, organizaciones sin fines de lucro en todo Estados Unidos y sus territorios han recibido casi $90 millones.

Bayer Fund awards third grant to Puerto Rico Composta

JUANA DÍAZ, PUERTO RICO – Recently, the Bayer Fund awarded a grant to the non-profit organization Puerto Rico Composta for the third consecutive year to benefit school communities in southern Puerto Rico. This year, the organization will receive the sum of $14,600 to continue bringing the Compost Mania Project on the benefits of composting to schools in the country.
“We are honored to collaborate again with Puerto Rico Composta, who inspire us to continue our mission here at Bayer. It is a pleasure to contribute daily to the growth of Puerto Rico and achieve results that benefit the communities we serve,” said Marivier Rojas, nursery success and optimization lead at Bayer Crop Science Puerto Rico.
This alliance is another example of Bayer’s solid commitment to the communities that most need help and their continued work toward the social growth of Puerto Rico.
Currently, six schools in the southern area of Puerto Rico are part of the project and its first cycle: Luis Lloréns Torres and Luis Muñoz Marín in Juana Díaz (school in virtual mode), Daniel Webster in Peñuelas, and Guillermo Riefkohl in Patillas. In 2023, two schools in the north of the island joined the project: Josefita Monserrate de Sellés in San Juan and Eugenio Brac in Naguabo.
The schools corresponding to the second cycle are Ramón Pérez in Peñuelas, Gloria Borrero in Guayanilla, Leónides Morales in Lajas, Ramón Marín and Juan Serrallés in Ponce, Ana Valldejuly in Santa Isabel, and the PR Animals organization in Cayey.
“Currently, 13 teachers and approximately 250 students – among these six schools – are working directly with the project. The direct scope of the project may be greater, but we have established that the indirect scope will be greater,” explained Tainachí Fernández Roque, director of Puerto Rico Composta, Inc. “We will share these updated numbers in our closing activity at the end of the period covered by said project.”
