- La compañía agrícola donó 456 árboles a los trabajos de mitigación de la Reserva Natural de Punta Tuna
Maunabo, Puerto Rico – Con el propósito de contribuir a la siembra comunitaria para mitigar el impacto del huracán Maria en la Reserva Natural de Punta Tuna, la compañía agrícola Bayer Crop Science donó 456 árboles a Siempre Verde y el Comité Pro-Desarrollo de Maunabo en dicho municipio.
A través de un acuerdo colaborativo, la compañía Siempre Verde se encarga de realizar los trabajos de restauración en Punta Tuna, mientras la reserva es administrada por el Departamento de Recursos Naturales y Ambientales de Puerto Rico (DRNA) y co-manejada por el Comité Pro-Desarrollo de Maunabo.
“Alrededor del mundo, nos hemos trazado nuevas metas para continuar impactando positivamente nuestro ambiente, dentro y fuera de nuestras operaciones”, expresó Eric Torres, líder de operaciones de Bayer Crop Science Puerto Rico. “Estamos muy orgullosos y complacidos de continuar avanzando en nuestras metas a través de este proyecto colaborativo en Maunabo. Enhorabuena”.
Los árboles donados incluyen especies de retama prieta (Senna polyphylla), roble blanco (Tabebuia heterophylla) y mangle botón (Conocarpus erectus). Para ello, la compañía estableció un invernadero para la horticultura de estos árboles, que se utilizan en estos esfuerzos, además de iniciativas de extensión comunitaria. Las mismas son coordinadas por el Programa de Reforestación de Bayer, dirigido por el agrónomo Francisco Muñiz, especialista en investigación agronómica en Bayer Crop Science Puerto Rico.
“El Programa de Reforestación de Bayer se guía por la misión de apoyar y promover la biodiversidad en los ecosistemas de nuestras fincas y operaciones”, explicó Muñiz. “También es nuestro interés colaborar y contribuir a restaurar y reforestar hábitats naturales y preservar nuestros recursos naturales. En Siempre Verde y el Comité Pro-Desarrollo de Maunabo hemos encontrado aliados estratégicos para llevar a cabo nuestras metas. Estamos muy contentos de comenzar esta colaboración y esperamos que sea la primera de muchas”.

Bayer donates trees to nature reserve in Maunabo
- The agricultural company donated 456 trees to the mitigation works of the Punta Tuna Natural Reserve
Maunabo, PR (September 23, 2021) – Committed to contribute to the community planting aimed to mitigate the impact of Hurricane Maria in the Punta Tuna Wetlands Nature Reserve, the agricultural company Bayer Crop Science donated 456 trees to Siempre Verde and the Maunabo Pro-Development Committee in said municipality.
Through a collaborative effort, the Siempre Verde company is in charge of carrying out the restoration work in Punta Tuna, while the reserve is administered by the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA) and co-managed by the Maunabo Pro-Development Committee.
“Around the world, we have set new goals to continue positively impacting our environment, inside and outside our operations”, said Eric Torres, site enablement lead at Bayer Crop Science Puerto Rico. “We are very proud and pleased to continue to advance our goals through this collaborative project in Maunabo. The donated trees include species of dessert cassia (Senna polyphylla), white cedar (Tabebuia heterophylla) and button mangrove (Conocarpus erectus). To do this, the company established a greenhouse for the horticulture of these trees, which are used in these efforts, in addition to community outreach initiatives. These are coordinated by the Bayer Reforestation Program, led by agronomist Francisco Muñiz, agronomic research specialist at Bayer Crop Science Puerto Rico.
“Bayer’s Reforestation Program is guided by the mission of supporting and promoting biodiversity in the ecosystems of our farms and operations”, explained Muñiz. “It is also our interest to collaborate and contribute to restoring and reforesting natural habitats and preserving our natural resources.
